Screenplay slugline format

A scene heading is INT. or EXT. (or INT./EXT.), a location in caps, a dash, then time of day. No cameras in the slugline unless you are writing a shooting script. This cleaner fixes missing periods, mixed case, and missing DAY/NIGHT.

Frequently asked questions

INT or INT.?

Industry spec scripts use INT. and EXT. with a period.

What times of day are standard?

DAY and NIGHT cover most scenes. DAWN, DUSK, CONTINUOUS, and LATER are common production variants.

{# Converter success dialog. Only rendered on the converter tools, and only shown once a conversion has actually succeeded. The Zen Writer CTA is presented first, but the download stays in the dialog as a real button rather than a line of text at the bottom: the visitor's own task has to be finishable from here without dismissing anything, and the site never gates a free conversion behind a signup, an email or an install. #}
