Privacy Policy
Effective and last updated: September 13, 2026
Screenplay Writer: Zen Writer is developed by Ashish Rattan and published under Elevantus. The apps are designed to work without a writing account. The mobile apps use PostHog for product analytics and privacy-masked session replay. This website uses Google Analytics, logs download clicks, processes direct Mac purchases through Dodo Payments, and stores files selected in its free writing tools.
1. Who this policy covers
This Privacy Policy explains how Ashish Rattan / Elevantus (“we,” “us,” or “our”) handles information when you use the Screenplay Writer: Zen Writer mobile applications and this website (together, the “Service”).
2. Information we collect
Your mobile-app drafts are stored on your device, and we do not require an account, email address, or password. If you enable iCloud sync, Apple processes the synced data through the iCloud account you control. We do not send screenplay text as a custom analytics event or event property.
Mobile app analytics and session replay
We use PostHog Cloud to understand how the mobile apps are used, measure onboarding and feature adoption, investigate problems, and improve the Service. PostHog may receive a randomly generated app-specific identifier; app lifecycle, screen-view, and feature-interaction events; app and device information such as platform, app version, operating-system version, device model, locale, and time zone; purchase or restore outcomes and product identifiers; and limited error information such as an error type. PostHog may process an IP address and derive an approximate region from it. We do not send your name, email address, payment-card information, or screenplay text as custom analytics properties.
When mobile session replay is enabled, PostHog records a visual representation of app screens and touch interactions so we can understand usability problems. The app is configured to mask text input fields, images, and iOS system or sandboxed views on the device before replay data is sent. Console logs and network request or response content are not recorded. We use analytics and replay data only to operate, troubleshoot, secure, and improve the Service, not for third-party advertising or tracking across apps or websites owned by other companies.
Website download analytics
When you use the download link on this site, we store an anonymous click ID, approximate time, IP address, browser user-agent, detected device type (iOS, Android, or desktop), the store you were sent to, the page you came from, and optional campaign tags (utm). A cookie named zw_cid remembers the click ID for about 90 days so a later install or purchase can be matched.
Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 to measure visits and improve this website. Google Analytics may collect information such as pages viewed, referring pages, device and browser details, approximate location, and interactions with the site, using cookies or similar technologies. Google processes this information according to its own privacy policy.
Purchases
Optional mobile Pro purchases are processed by Apple or Google. Direct Zen Writer for Mac purchases are processed by Dodo Payments, which receives the name and email you enter, payment and billing details, and information required to calculate tax, prevent fraud, issue a receipt, and create your license key. We do not receive or store your payment card details. For direct Mac sales, our server stores only the Dodo webhook identifier, event type and time, payment and product identifiers, payment status, amount, and currency; it does not store the full license key or checkout email. If a mobile app reports an install or purchase to our tracking endpoint, we may store product and transaction identifiers and try to match them to a prior download click (same click ID, or the same IP within 14 days).
Mac license activation
When you activate Zen Writer for Mac, the app sends the license key and a device activation name to Dodo Payments over HTTPS. Dodo returns a license-instance identifier and product confirmation. The app stores the license key, instance identifier, and last validation time in your Mac keychain and periodically asks Dodo whether the license remains valid. The app does not send your screenplay text during activation or validation.
Free-tool uploads
When you select a file in a website free tool, we upload and store the original file in our tool-upload storage. This includes files such as Fountain, Final Draft XML (FDX), PDF, and plain-text screenplay files. We store the file, the tool used, original filename, file type, size, upload time, IP address, browser user-agent, and session identifier; if you are signed in, the upload may also be associated with your account. The website does not require an account to use these tools.
3. How we use information
Scripts you write in the mobile apps are used on your device to provide editing, formatting, statistics, import, export, local autosave, and optional iCloud sync. Mobile analytics is used to measure feature usage, purchase-funnel performance, reliability, and usability. Files uploaded to a website free tool are used to provide that tool and to maintain the tool-upload records. We do not use screenplay content for advertising.
4. How information is shared
We do not sell personal information. PostHog processes mobile analytics and session-replay data for us as a service provider using our United States PostHog Cloud project. Google processes website analytics. Hosting and storage providers process website requests and files selected for website tools. Apple and Google process in-app purchases, and Dodo Payments processes direct Mac purchases and license validation, according to their privacy policies. These providers may process information only as needed to provide their services to us or as required by law.
5. Data retention and deletion
App drafts remain on your device until you delete a project, clear the app’s data, or uninstall the app. Data synced through iCloud remains in the iCloud account you control until it is deleted there. Purchase records are retained as needed for license support, accounting, fraud prevention, and legal obligations. Mobile analytics events and session replays are retained according to the retention settings of our PostHog project and are deleted or anonymized when they are no longer reasonably needed. Website free-tool uploads are stored on our servers and currently have no automatic expiration. You can request deletion of analytics data, support communications, or a website upload through the support page. Because the apps do not require an account, we may need information such as the approximate event date, app version, device platform, payment receipt, or payment identifier to locate a record, and fully anonymous records may not be identifiable.
6. Security
Mobile-app drafts remain local unless you enable iCloud sync. Analytics and replay data is transmitted to PostHog over encrypted HTTPS connections, and website uploads are stored using the server storage configured for the Service. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, so keep device backups and copies you trust.
7. Your privacy choices and rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to the processing of personal information. You can turn iCloud sync off in the app and delete local projects at any time. To exercise a privacy right or ask a question about analytics, session replay, or uploaded files, use the support page. We do not use PostHog data for cross-company advertising tracking.
8. Children’s privacy
The Service is rated 4+ and is not directed at collecting personal information from children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the Service or legal requirements change. We will post the revised policy here and update the date above.
